# InspectBite > InspectBite is a food and cosmetic product safety analysis platform that helps consumers understand what is in the products they buy and use every day. InspectBite provides detailed safety analysis for hundreds of food products, beauty and skincare products, and their individual ingredients. Each product and ingredient is evaluated using a red/yellow/green safety rating system based on data from authoritative sources including OpenFoodFacts, USDA FoodData Central, FDA recall databases, EWG Skin Deep, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR), IARC classifications, and peer-reviewed toxicology studies. The platform performs per-ingredient risk assessment, flagging concerns such as potential carcinogenicity, endocrine disruption, allergenicity, organ toxicity, and developmental or reproductive harm. InspectBite covers both food additives (artificial colors, preservatives, sweeteners, emulsifiers, flavor enhancers) and cosmetic ingredients (parabens, sulfates, UV filters, fragrances, preservatives, actives). The goal is to make complex safety data accessible so that consumers can make informed choices at the store shelf. InspectBite is also available as an iOS app with barcode scanning, real-time product lookup, FDA recall alerts, and restaurant health inspection scores for 20 major US cities. ## Content Sections - [Food Products](https://inspectbite.com/products): Safety analysis of popular packaged food products with ingredient breakdowns, concern flags, and healthier alternatives - [Beauty Products](https://inspectbite.com/beauty-products): Safety analysis of skincare, haircare, makeup, and personal care products with per-ingredient hazard assessment - [Food Ingredients](https://inspectbite.com/ingredients): Detailed profiles of food additives covering safety status, regulatory history, health concerns, and which products contain them - [Beauty Ingredients](https://inspectbite.com/beauty-ingredients): Profiles of cosmetic ingredients including preservatives, fragrances, surfactants, UV filters, emollients, colorants, and actives - [Blog](https://inspectbite.com/blog): Articles on food recalls, ingredient deep dives, label reading guides, beauty safety, and food safety news - [Restaurant Health Scores](https://inspectbite.com/restaurants): Health inspection scores and violation data for restaurants in 20 major US cities - [Learn / Glossary](https://inspectbite.com/learn): Definitions of food safety terms such as critical violations, health grades, HACCP, foodborne illness, and more - [Ingredient Decoder](https://inspectbite.com/decode): Tool to paste an ingredient list and get instant safety analysis - [Product Comparison](https://inspectbite.com/compare-products): Side-by-side safety comparison of two products - [Dietary Guides](https://inspectbite.com/guides): Curated product recommendations for vegan, keto, kids, and allergy-friendly diets - [Brands](https://inspectbite.com/brands): Safety overviews of major food brands including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Frito-Lay, General Mills, and others ## Methodology InspectBite rates products and ingredients using a three-tier system: green (low concern), yellow (moderate concern), and red (high concern). Food product scores are nutrition-based, factoring in added sugars, sodium, saturated fat, artificial additives, and ultra-processing level. Beauty product scores are hazard-based, assessing each ingredient for carcinogenicity, endocrine disruption, allergenicity, irritation potential, and environmental persistence. Individual ingredient risk levels are determined by cross-referencing regulatory databases (FDA, EU/EFSA, Health Canada), toxicology studies, and independent research organizations (EWG, CIR, IARC). ## More Information For comprehensive information, see [llms-full.txt](https://inspectbite.com/llms-full.txt)
